nix·manzanilla
Hello there! Welcome to my world. I am nix. In order to get to know a bit before we meet in person I’ll tell you a few things about myself. I am a non binary trans woman :). I studied biology in Bogota, I was born in venezuela and i grew up traveling around the world, especially the caribbean. Back at university I had the opportunity to work with Dr Jane Goodall empowering the people to take care of the planet. After working with Jane I started my own project cooking vegan food with local ingredients that tells a new story of peacemaking in my country.
That endeavor led me to open a shop but i don’t sell food anymore but self care products, deplanta (that’s the name of it). I’ve been working since then with different communities throughout the country using different endemic plant species to produce wellbeing products. Right now i’m influenced by ayurveda and eastern plants and sacred medicines to heal our emotional collective consciousness. Working with nature brought me back to my spirit and my essence. Before pandemics I started an emotional and spiritual healing process, and this journey started here, in Barichara. I’ve been visiting Barichara since 2020 and I’ve been in love with its people, magic, architecture, artisans, artists, witches and magical beings. So now I’m living here.
I’ve always been in contact with Arts. I have an exploration painting on natural fiber papers, making my own colors and playing with flowers and plants pressed on papers. I also used to play in theaters and i’m always practicing as a life routine body expression and movement. In this moment i am creating a performance and also training ballet. I’m in love with music but my learning skills are very slowly :).
So i want to welcome you to my world!
Why Barichara?
I’ve been looking all my life for that magical town in which i can fall in love with nature, in which i can live in harmony with it and in which i can also give myself the time to live the natural cycles. At the same time for me it is SO important the fact of being motivated by like-minded people (sustainability, art, crafts, dance) kinda like a tribe kind of thing. Barichara is not that accesible because we have no airports and its 8 hours far from the biggest cities in Colombia and this is a good thing (believe me). People here are open minded, as we always welcome visitors from all over the planet-
Barichara used to be a place to rest to ancient civilisations then it was a colonial town and in the last 100 years has welcomed important colombian artists and politicians. Even Disney’s Encanto movie was inspired by this town. So you can definitely feel this is a fairy tale town BUT with the latin american scent and flavor (one of the main reasons i decided to stay).
I’m opening right now to receive visitors to this wonderful and mysterious land. So if you are interested in latin america, in colombia, in nature, magic, healing, crafts, artisan, sustainability, astrology, ayurveda, natural and good stuff this is your place. I live in a casona at la loma, barichara. Its super near by walking to the town center and its location is perfect because is not crowded, you are very near and everything is peaceful. The idea is that you stay minimum 3 nights and we both organize your plans here in barichara, i get to know a lot of people so you can have mentors or guides in almost everything you want :).
